A Call for Reflection
Jorhat, Nov 3: Rupjyoti Kurmi, the MLA from Mariani, has reached out to Paresh Baruah, the leader of the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I), urging him to contemplate the significant message delivered by the late cultural figure Zubeen Garg in his last film, Roi Roi Binale. Kurmi described the film as a compelling appeal against violence.
“Zubeen da has conveyed a crucial message to ULFA-I through Roi Roi Binale,” Kurmi expressed with emotion after viewing the film on Monday.
“In the narrative, Zubeen da’s character suffers blindness due to a bomb explosion, symbolizing the devastation that violence inflicts. If Paresh Baruah can grasp this message, it might prompt him to reflect and potentially reintegrate into society,” he added.
Kurmi made these comments following a screening of the film at Eleye Multiplex Cinema Hall in Jorhat, where he was accompanied by family members and local residents.
Out of respect for the late artist, Kurmi reserved the entire hall for one of the screenings and arranged transportation for local attendees.
“Zubeen da had encouraged us to watch this film before he passed away. Honoring his wish and out of profound love for him, I brought everyone here today,” Kurmi said, visibly emotional.
The screening took place under strict security, attracting a heartfelt audience of villagers eager to experience Garg’s dream project together.
Before the film commenced, Kurmi left one seat empty in tribute to the singer-actor, adorning it with his photograph and flowers. He stated that this act fulfilled Garg’s wish.
“Through this film, he has imparted numerous messages. Everything he often expressed has been encapsulated here as his final testament,” he continued.
Meanwhile, Roi Roi Binale continues to attract large audiences throughout Assam and beyond.
In Garg’s hometown of Jorhat, all screenings at Eleye Multiplex are sold out until November 6, showcasing the immense support from fans.
For many attendees who joined MLA Kurmi at the screening, the experience was profoundly emotional; a bittersweet homage to Garg’s artistry and lasting legacy.
